Summer completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology and Conservation at the University of Guelph, going on to complete an Advanced Diploma program in Ecosystem Management Technology at Fleming College after gaining work experience in various field-based ecology projects. Since joining Dougan & Associates in 2019, she has gained certification as an ISA certified arborist and worked on various projects applying her field skills, including Ecological Land Classification (ELC), Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN), wetland and drip-line surveying, and general vegetation inventory. She also has experience in wildlife surveying and identification, including Breeding Bird Surveys (BBS), Nocturnal Amphibian Call Surveys (NACS), and bat acoustic surveys. Summer regularly takes on both project management duties and supporting roles in projects including conducting background research, botanical surveys, data management, and report writing.  

As an ecologist and having recently developed an interest in restoration work, Summer quickly became an active member of the Network of Nature project team after starting at D&A. Summer sees immense potential for the Network of Nature species database and platform to educate others on the importance of planting native species and uses her passion for the subject to spread the word through Network of Nature’s various social-media channels.
