Municipal & Green Infrastructure
Ontario is facing the growing challenges of aging infrastructure, effects of climate change, and growing health care costs. Green infrastructure presents a method for communities to approach these challenges.
Green infrastructure is the use of vegetation, soil, and green technologies such as green roofs and infiltration swales to replicate ecosystem functions in the built environment. It gives rise to infrastructure and energy cost savings while providing human health benefits.
With our focus on ecology, design and planning, D&A has both developed and applied green infrastructure plans for over 15 years.
D&A offers special expertise in the field of green infrastructure through the crossing of disciplines of our Ecologists and Landscape Architects. We offer design solutions based on this proficiency as well as our extensive experience in municipalities across southern Ontario. Our services include:
- Stormwater management
- Low Impact Development
- Slope stabilization
- Streetscape design
We are recognized by agencies for the quality and competence of our work. Our expertise was applied to develop the Landscape Design Guide for Low Impact Development for Credit Valley Conservation in 2010. Selected award winning projects that have included green infrastructure as a key component are:
- CSLA NATIONAL HONOUR AWARD and TORONTO URBAN DESIGN AWARD: Evergreen Brick Works Detailed Design, 2013
- MISSISSAUGA URBAN DESIGN AWARD OF MERIT: O’Connor Park, 2012
- MISSISSAUGA URBAN DESIGN AWARD OF EXCELLENCE and LEED BRONZE CERTIFICATION: Lakeside Park Development, 2010
