critterDougan & Associates (D&A) Ecological Consulting & Design offers the following core services: Natural Heritage Planning, Landscape Design, Ecological Assessment & Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Ecological Restoration & Habitat Creation, Urban Forest Management, Ecological Monitoring & Education, Peer Review & Expert Witness Testimony. D&A has grown from being an individual proprietorship in 1981, to a firm of 14 professionals including Jim Dougan, Principal and owner, offering special expertise in all aspects of terrestrial ecology.

D&A has participated in more than 1000 environmental projects over the past quarter century ranging in scale from site specific (e.g., less than 1 ha) to regional (e.g., more than 2000 ha) for a variety of public and private sector clients including municipalities, developers, government agencies, private landowners, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations. Experience with this range of project types has allowed D&A staff to develop unique insights and perspectives on ecological planning, assessment and design.

D&A has a reputation for providing quality services and products that integrate innovative approaches to environmental issues, particularly in urbanizing settings. D&A staff are knowledgeable about Provincial Policy as it relates to natural heritage in Ontario, have expertise in the Ecological Classification (ELC) system for southern Ontario and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES), and are regularly involved consultation processes with agencies, key stakeholders and communities. D&A also has the in-house capability to provide mapping and design products in AutoCAD and GIS, as well as a range of presentation and public consultation products.
